According to an article it says, “Aaron Hillel Swartz (November 8, 1986 – January 11, 2013) was an American computer programmer, writer, political organizer and Internet activist.” (Aaron swartz) He was part of a group that was against Internet censorship. He was arrested for fraud involving computers. He stole many documents he found online from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology but said he was not guilty. He released millions of documents from PACER which was worth $1.5 million dollars. (Martinez, 2013)
Swartz was going to be sent to prison for fifty years and also was charged $1 million dollars in fines. He did not want to be considered a ‘felon’. He believed he was not doing anything wrong. In an article it says, “Swartz’s family and his partner created a memorial website on which they issued a statement, saying, “He used his prodigious skills as a programmer and technologist not to enrich himself not to enrich himself but to make the Internet and the world a fairer, better place.”” (Aaron swartz)
It says that U.S. Intellectual Property Law is very strict. They are not joking around with the law, They believe that if you commit a crime then you have to own up to it. If you are doing things illegally you will have to pay the consequences.

I do not consider any pieces of information private if it is posted anywhere on the Internet. If you are going to post something online you should make sure that it is something that is ok for everyone to see. Even if you make your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram account private people still can find ways to see it.
I don’t think there is a problem with either corporations or the government seeing your information. If you are going to post information online for many to see then it shouldn’t matter if corporations or the government see it. Also, if you are being hired for a job and they want to see your Facebook I think that it is perfectly ok for them to view your profile. They do not want to end up hiring someone who is posting information that is inappropriate.
Twitter is a very useful social network in regards to world news. If you would like to find out news about a certain subject you just have to follow the account. News is posted on the home page on a daily basis. You don’t even have to go to the account because it keeps you updated on the home page. It is limited to 140 text characters so it makes it easy to find out news quick. A con to Twitter is that it doesn’t always tell you all of the information about something so you have to look it up on the Internet if you want to find out more information.
Instagram is also a very useful social network in regards to world news but it is not as useful as Twitter. Instagram posts pictures and does have a comment section but it is more about the picture than it is the comment. It is meant for sharing pictures about events. The comments section on Instagram is helpful but you have to click on “view all comments” to see all of the comments and that takes time to read through all the comments. Traditional media is slowly becoming less and less popular. Now that people can just use their phone or iPad to look something up there is no point of buying a newspaper. Also social media is taking over and is keeping people updated about things happening around the world. You can find out information faster than looking through a newspaper.
The Boston Marathon in 2013 was a major event. Three people were killed and about 264 were injured. Two men set off two bombs near the finish line. Online it says “Dzhokhar said he and his brother wanted to defend Islam from the U.S., which conducted the Iraq War and War in Afghanistan, in the view of the brothers, against Muslims.” (Boston marathon bombings, 2013) Social media has influenced this event because it has brought people together and is making everyone aware of what is going on. According to an article it says, “TV was the most widely used source of information about the bombings, according to Pew, used by 80% of Americans.” (Petrecca, 2013)

The United States has been fighting over whether same-sex marriage should be legal for a long time but these past couple of years have gotten worse. The media influences these uprisings because they put it all over the news. Many supporters use Facebook as a way of getting more people to help pass this law. Around 2.5 million people changed their profile picture to a red equal sign in support of same-sex marriage. Many people who were not for same-sex marriage said that it has to do with religious beliefs and parenting concerns. (Same-sex marriage in, 2014)

STEM subjects are Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The STEM workforce is mostly men. A small amount is women. Students learn about these four subjects so that they can better prepare for college and the real world.
STEM jobs are higher paying jobs compared to other jobs. Just being trained in a STEM field gives you a better chance at getting a job even if it is not in the STEM field.
